Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
